Question for written answer P-002470-19
to the Commission
Rule 138
Marian-Jean Marinescu (PPE)

Subject:  Regional hospitals in Romania under the Regional Operational Programme

The Romanian Ministry of Health has been instructed to draw up feasibility studies and financial plans for the construction of regional hospitals in Craiova, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca under the Regional Operational Programme (ROP). For the current programming period, the EU is channelling EUR 150 million into the three regional hospitals, with a further EUR 150 million being contributed by Romania.

In view of this:
1. Can the Commission indicate the final cost of a regional hospital, according to the feasibility studies?
2. Has the European funding of EUR 150 million been spent and for what purposes?
3. Why has the European funding ceiling been set at 50%, given that funding of up to 85% is admissible for this financial year?
