to the Commission
Rule 138
Isabel Benjumea Benjumea (PPE)

Subject:  Use of the EU's Solidarity Fund for the floods in Murcia

In the week of 12 to 15 September 2019, as much as 450 l/m2 of rain fell in eastern Spain. The resulting floods had a devastating effect, killing six people and causing an estimated EUR 590 774 720 worth of damage. The purpose of the Solidarity Fund is to provide financial support in situations such as the above.

1. Has the Commission received a file from Spain about the floods in Murcia?

2. Taking into account the precarious situation faced by those affected by the floods and their devastating effects on social and production activity, has the Commission looked at the file?

3. In the light of the effects of those floods and in line with the Solidarity Fund Regulation, could the areas affected be considered civil protection disaster areas?
