Roadblock on the AP-7 at La Junquera border crossing

Priority question for written answer  P-003765/2019
to the Commission
Rule 138
Dolors Montserrat (PPE)

After several weeks of street violence in Catalonia sparked by radical pro-independence movements, protesters have now gone a step further by blocking the AP-7 motorway (European route E15), which links Spain and Portugal with France at La Junquera.

In so doing they are obstructing the free movement of goods and persons, jeopardising Spain and Portugal’s links with the rest of Europe and damaging the economy, in particular the transport sector and all those who work in it.

Spain's overall economic situation is also worsening, severely undermining the competitiveness of our companies and putting many people's jobs at risk.

In the light of these serious events that threaten to prevent people moving between Spain, Portugal and France in the coming days, and the Spanish Government's failure to respond, what urgent steps will the Commission take to restore free movement of goods and persons with immediate effect?
