Denmark - Electoral Law
Election to the European Parliament : 13 June 2004 - Electoral Procedure

1. LEGAL BASIS
The electoral law of 4 March 1994, as amended by the laws adopted by the Folketing on 22 May 1996, 13 January 1997, 4 May 1998 and 4 December 2003.
2. ELECTORAL SYSTEM

Proportional representation with one nationwide constituency (the Faroe Islands and Greenland are not part of the EU). Voters may either vote for an entire list or indicate their preference for individual candidates from the lists. Some parties inform voters which candidates on the list are supported by them. Each voter may vote only once.

Allocation of seats: d'Hondt method. All votes cast in the various constituencies, both for lists and for individual candidates, are added together. The candidates thus obtaining the highest number of votes are elected. 4 electoral coalitions are expected.
