Buzek meets Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn

EP President Jerzy Buzek met with the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Volodymyr Lytvyn on 30 November in Brussels.

Speaking at a press point following the meeting the President Buzek thanked Speaker Lytvyn for the invitation to the European Parliament to monitor the presidential elections on 17 January 2010. President Buzek stated that the EP will send a delegation there and stated that he hoped that the elections will be free and fair as has been in the last few years.

President Buzek stressed that despite the ongoing political campaign Ukrainian political leaders should try to overcome political divisions and ensure long-term political stability beneficial for the whole country, especially in times of crisis.

EP President also welcomed Ukraine's support for both the Eastern Partnership and the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.

Finally, President Buzek said that he looked forward to the Ukraine-Poland European football championships in 2012, after of course the World Cup in South Africa in June 2010.
