The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek reacted to the tragic events occurring in Kyrgyzstan.

The President said: "I want to express my deepest concern on the evolution of the recent developments in Kyrgyzstan.

Violence should never be a method for solving political disputes.

The escalation of brutal attacks needs to be halted immediately and I condemn the killings that have occurred in the streets of Bishkek, Talas, Naryn and Tokmak.

I call upon all parties involved in the conflict to do their utmost to protect human rights and the basic freedoms of the people of Kyrgyzstan since human rights constitute the basic fabric upon which any community is built and functions.

Re-establishing the rule of law is the first precondition to restore peace.

On behalf of the European Parliament I would like to offer our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during these tragic events."
