The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek sends his condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the severe storms that hit the island of Madeira today. He expressed his solidarity with the affected inhabitants.

EP President Jerzy Buzek said: "My heartfelt condolences go the families of the victims and we wish those injured a speedy recovery. My sincere sympathies go to all people affected by the severe storms in Madeira."

Reports say that numerous people died due to heavy storms on the island of Madeira. Many people are said to be injured due to the heavy rains, which caused flooding and landslides.
