After the announcement of the election results for President of the Republic of Poland, EP President Jerzy Buzek said:
"I warmly congratulate Bronisław Komorowski on his election victory as President of Poland. It is his great and deserved success.

I have known Bronisław Komorowski for many years. We have worked closely in the Polish government which I led where he was my Defence Minister. I highly appreciate his political experience and qualifications to undertake the most important political functions in the country.

Bronisław Komorowski will be a President of unity and reconciliation, a reliable and firm representative of Poland.

He will guarantee good cooperation with the Polish government. This is necessary in the context of the forthcoming Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2011. This cooperation will be essential for the presidency to be a success, both for Poland and the European Union.

I am convinced that Bronisław Komorowski will meet all the challenges of the Office of President of Poland. I wish him persistance in fulfilling his tasks and the best of luck."
