President Buzek at the EP hearing: "Violence against women: We can stop it!"
During the hearing EP President Buzek said:
"Europe should do more. Violence against women is a crime against humanity. A society which allows violence to exist becomes a brutal society, and is not the type of society we wish to live in.
What is most tragic is that most of the women are victims of violence from their close partners, family. We still don't have enough information about the real scale of the issue.
All of the victims of such horrible acts have my full compassion and support."
Yesterday, the President of the European Parliament met one of the participants in today's hearing, a victim of an acid attack from Bulgaria.
MEPs, national MPs and experts participated in the hearing about an end to violence against women.
