Multiple car bombings in Baghdad: Buzek condemns violence

Brussels -
Sunday, April 4, 2010

The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek strongly condemned the multiple car bombings in Baghdad killing over 50 civilians and injuring more then 200 people.

"I call upon the Iraqi authorities to do everything in their power to put an end to the spiral of violence. Today's attacks have brought to an end a relatively calm period in Iraq following last month's parliamentary elections. Those who have perpetrated today's crimes are interested in proving that Iraq continues to be a destabilised country torn by violence. It is in the interest of the Iraqi people, their authorities and the international community to make everything possible that they to not succeed" - President Buzek said.

"On behalf of the European Parliament I would like to offer our condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims and the Iraqi population as a whole. We wish that all those who were injured a full and speedy recovery" - the President concluded.
