President Buzek on the death of Egon Klepsch, former President of the European Parliament

The European Parliament mourns Egon Klepsch who died on Saturday, 18 September 2010. Egon Klepsch was President of the European Parliament from 1992 until 1994 and was Member of the European Parliament from 1973 until 1994.

EP President Jerzy Buzek said:
"The death of Egon Klepsch is a huge loss for our united Europe and even more for our European Parliament. We owe him a lot; he was an inspiring and extremely committed European and shaped the European Parliament. He contributed to a very important extent to transform the European Parliament from a mere consultative assembly into the powerful and self-confident Parliament that it is today. Egon Klepsch was a highly respected Parliamentarian and an impressive personality and during all his life-time he worked restlessly to re-unite our continent.

On behalf of the European Parliament, I send my deepest feelings of condolences to the family of Egon Klepsch. We will always commemorate Egon Klepsch as one of our finest and most honourable Members of the European Parliament."
