At their meeting of 29 June the Heads of State or Goverment of the 25 Member States agreed on the nomination of Mr José Manuel DURÃO BARROSO as nominee for the Commission Presidency.

On 22 July 2004 Mr BARROSO presented his political guidelines to the newly constituted European Parliament, and the European Parliament approved the nomination of Mr BARROSO. ( Vote of approval )
