Defending Democracy
24/03/2006 - In the swirling rain outside the European Summit today in Brussels the Independence/Democracy Group in the European parliament launched its Plan D Tour bus. Nigel Farage MEP, Co-President of the group said, "This bus will dog the steps of the Commission as it jets around Europe pretending that all is well and the Constitution is on track".

16/03/2006 - Following discussions the Italian delegation (Lega Nord) and the Polish delegation are no longer members of the Independence/Democracy Group in the European Parliament. Though invited to rejoin, the Polish delegation decided not to accept the Groups invitation to remain part of the Group.

Celebrating Diversity on International Women's day
8/03/2006 - The Independence/Democracy tomorrow celebrates International Women's day. In particular it celebrates the diversity of both women and opinion on such a headline date. Urszula Krupa MEP (PL) said, whilst referring to the historic status of women within the Christian tradition of Europe, "women are the heart of a family and has full rights to active participation in all spheres of public and social life".
Godfrey Bloom MEP, (UKIP UK) said "Women do not need special laws, programmes or positive discrimination. Let’s just stand back, get out of their way, and let them get on with it, whatever ‘it’ is". Read more

ECJ-Takeover: Feverish Activity Behind The Scenes

Lega Nord has been suspended from the IND/DEM group

22/02/2006 An IND/DEM extraordinary meeting on the 21 February upheld its bureau decision to suspend Lega Nord. The decision to leave the group will be made voluntarily by Lega Nord next week or decided in a group meeting in Strasbourg on March 14.
