The Bureau of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) held a fact-finding mission to the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, in Ispra (Italy) on 23 March 2012.
The Co-Presidents of the JPA, Louis Michel and Musikari Kombo (Kenya) led the mission which comprised also another Member of the EP (Tsoukalas, EPP), as well as Vice Presidents of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Wazembe (Malawi) and Jimenez (Dominican Republic).

. The objective of the mission was to gather information on the scientific and technical support that the European Union can provide to ACP countries with regard to high quality scientific research and also to share the outcomes of certain research projects.
Topics included antipiracy projects, food security issues in relation to territorial perspectives, management of water resources, desertification, access to energy and the sustainable development of natural resources.
Members also visited the European crisis management laboratory and saw several tests for early detection of a variety of crisis scenarios such as earthquakes and other natural disasters, intentional threats and health crisis. |
