26 June 2007 - EP Petitions Committee visits Ireland (27-29 June)

The objective of this visit is to allow MEPs the opportunity to meet with petitioners and other interested parties, including representatives from national and local government, in order to explore solutions to many of the complex issues raised by Irish citizens which concern areas of activity of the European Union.

The right to petition the European Parliament is a right accorded to all European citizens or residents of the EU under Article 194 of the Treaty and constitutes one of the advantages of European citizenship. The Petitions Committee aims to ensure that non-judicial remedies are found where possible in cooperation with national, regional or local authorities.
