Celebrating Europe Day with 'A Taste of Europe'

On Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 May, the European Parliament and the European Commission organised 'A Taste of Europe' event in European Union House in Dublin to celebrate Europe Day, the day in 1950 on which Robert Schuman, then French Minister for Foreign Affairs, announced his plan for Europe's countries to work together.

This plan has led to the European Union we have today. The Embassies representing the EU's Member States in Ireland prepared national desserts and many attended the event in national dress to provide samples of their desserts to members of the public and to exchange recipes. Jazz pianist Fergus Sheil performed at regular intervals throughout the weekend.
