Europe Day - Celebrates "Afternoon Tea with Europe"

Europe Day was celebrated with a series of free events in Dublin and in Europe Direct Centres around the country. The theme was "Afternoon Tea with Europe" where participants enjoyed cakes from all around the EU supplied by the Heads of EU Embassies in Dublin. Guest of Honour was the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emer Costello.

Also attending was Minister for European Affairs, Dick Roche TD.  Music from the North Strand Kontra Band helped attract a large attendance of several hundred people.  

Other Events: Filmbase (Temple Bar) presented free screenings of short films by Irish filmmakers which have won recognition at European level.
The National Gallery Highlights of the European School of Painting, visiting works by European masters in the Gallery's permanent collection.
Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane Gallery -Concert in the Sculpture Gallery featured Sephardic music, from the Jewish diaspora. Public Lecture on the late Barry Flanagan - a Welsh sculptor resident in Ireland.
IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) Francis Alÿs: Le Temps du Sommeil. Belgian artist Francis Alÿs - his personal explorations of the cities in which he finds himself form the basis for an eclectic body of work.
