European Neighbours' Day - 27 May 2008
The European Parliament and the Commission Representation Offices in Dublin celebrated European Neighbours' Day with local residents and workers in the vicinity dropping in for coffee and a chat.
The idea for Neighbours' Day started in Paris in 1990 with the idea that people had no time to stop and chat with their neighbours any more and that a sense of community was being lost. Since then, European Neighbours' Day has been a growing success spreading to many European cities.
Enthusiastically received in Dublin by numerous members of the local community who made time to call in and say hello or to discuss matters of EU interest, the idea was seen as a great initiative, extremely worthwhile and was hoped it would be repeated next year!
