International Women's Day

To mark International Womens Day, the European Parliament Office hosted a meeting with WITS (Women in Technology and Science, during which WITs launched a multi-lingual DVD showcasing on roles of women in the scientific sector.  The audience also watched a recorded  message from Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Maire Geoghegan Quinn.

Later, at 5 pm, a brief seminar was held entitled "What the EU has done for Irish Women". Speakers included Lucinda Creighton, Minister for State for European Affairs; Ann Cahill, European Correspondent for the Examiner; Gemma Hussey, former Minister for Education; Orla O'Connor, Acting Director, National Women's Council of Ireland and Margaret Sweeney, company director and Business Consultant.

The seminar was followed by a concert by Frances Black.
