International Women's Day, Tralee, Co. Kerry, 5 March 2015

An event entitled "Agents of Change - Empowering Women through Education" will be jointly hosted by the European Parliament Information Office in Ireland and Kerry Business Women's Network on Thursday 5th March at Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee, Co. Kerry, in advance of International Women's Day.   Keynote speakers include MEP Deirdre Clune and entrepreneur, Deirdre Bounds.

"Our role as female legislators in the European Parliament is to encourage the women of Europe to stand together to promote an equal, just and fair society across the world. Equality is more than an abstract concept. It is access to education, opportunity and freedom of thought, identity and expression" - Deirdre Clune, MEP.

Speakers' biographies

Deirdre Clune is a former Member of the Irish Parliament (1997-2002, 2007-2011) and a Member of the Senate (2011-2014)  During her time in parliament, Deirdre was Deputy Spokeswoman on Entrerprise with special responsibility for innovation.  Deirdre was elected as an MEP for Ireland South in 2014.

Deirdre Bounds, former stand-up comedienne, world backpacker, English teacher, outback bus driver and mum of two, is the down-to-earth visionary who set up, the world's largest gap travel year company and, a travel and education sharing web platform based in Co. Cork.
