Today's hearings at the European Parliament

Hearings are currently taking place at the European Parliament in Brussels, during which MEPs will decide on the candidates for the new European Commission.

They will first hear from each of the candidates individually, as they appear before the relevant European Parliament Committees (11-19 January). Today, four Commissioners-designate will appear before MEPs from the relevant Committees.

Commissioner-designate for the Environment portfolio, Janez Potocnik (Slovenia) will face questions in the Environment Committee.

Commissioner-designate for the Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion portfoilio, László Andor (Hungary), will face questions from the Employment Committee.

Irish Commissioner-designate, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, who has been nominated for the Research, Innovation and Science portfolio will face questions from the Industry, Research and Energy Committee.

French Commissioner-designate, Michel Barnier, who has been nominated for the Internal Market and Services portfolio will face questions from the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and from the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committees.
