Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP opens cross-border consumer seminar in Letterkenny Europe Direct

Opening the event, Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP said:  “I am extremely pleased to support this event which will help inform consumers across the border counties of their rights when abroad or when shopping online. The bottom line is that all consumers in the European Union should feel as confident when buying in another EU country as they do at home. The European Parliament is a strong supporter of consumer rights, as we have demonstrated by enacting recent legislation to strengthen consumers’ rights when they shop and to provide them with easier access to redress if things go wrong.”

The European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) comprises 30 centres in Europe, and is co-funded by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health & Consumers and by the Member States, Iceland and Norway. The aim of the network is to create consumer confidence in the internal market by providing consumers with information on their rights under European legislation, and giving advice and assistance in the resolution of their cross-border disputes.
