The Ombudsman in Parliament

Europe's new mediator, ombudsman Emily O'Reilly, made her first official appearance in the Parliament, when she took part in a meeting by the petitions committee on 26 November. The committee deals, as the Ombudsman does, with people's complaints addressed to the EU administration. Ms O'Reilly is the first woman to hold this position. Previously she was Ireland's national ombudsman.

Ms O'Reilly attended the meeting to present the European Ombudsman's special report on Frontex, the European agency for the protection of the EU's external borders.
