European Youth Event 2016

The European Youth Event (EYE) took place in the European Parliament in Strasbourg from 20-21 May 2016. It was a unique opportunity for thousands of young Europeans to make their voices heard. During the event, they exchanged ideas and perspectives on youth-related issues, developed innovative solutions to crucial questions for the future and met with European decision-makers and speakers with a wide range of professional experience.

At the same time the EYE provided an opportunity to experience the rich cultural diversity within the European Union through the staging of various artistic performances and spectacles.

Ireland was well represented with participants from the Meath Youth Forum, Foroige, Macra na Feirme, The Galway European Youth Capital and Galway 2020 Capital of Culture. The NYCI were also there with a group of 30 young people and youth workers/leaders from Youth Work Ireland Galway, YMCA Cork, FDYS Wexford, Eco-Unesco, Crosscare, Ronanstown Youth Service, and youth work students from Maynooth and Ian Fahey and Paul Dockery from SpunOut.ie reported live on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

The official report of the event containing the many ideas developed by the young participants was launched by MEPs Mairead McGuinness and Sylvie Guillaume, European Parliament Vice-Presidents in September 2016. The report has been distributed to all MEPs. EYE participants will also have the opportunity to present the most concrete ideas produced by young people to a number of parliamentary committees and receive feedbacks from Members.
