St Colman's students travel to Strasbourg

David Parsons, John Nolan, Shane Costello, Justin Brennan, Keith Hennelly, Colin Hanley, Michael Doyle, Jason Slattery, Keelan McNamara, Stephan Commins and Brian O'Reilly were accompanied by their teacher Pat Keane in Strasbourg where they discussed a range of subjects including the environment, democracy, innovation, social policy and Europe's future.

The students brought forward proposals for legislation to improve the EU in these areas and defended their proposals at the general assembly from the seats normally occupied by our MEPs and had access to the direct translation facilities available to the parliamentarians. All were agreed that the occasion was an unforgettable experience.

Keith Hennelly one of the St. Colman's group who went to Strasbourg representing Ireland was further honoured by being given the task of interviewing Joe Higgins MEP. On Monday Keith with teacher Pat Keane and fellow student Keelan McNamara joined the news2day team at Mr. Higgins' constituency office where the filming took place. The interview was broadcasted on Wednesday 30 September on RTE 2.
