	Degree in philosophy (1985). Lecturer.
	Member of the European Parliament (since 1999); Vice-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education (1999-2004); Vice-President of the European Parliament (2004-2009). Chief whip of the Popolo della Libertà (PDL) party in the European Parliament (since 2009).
	Personal representative of the OSCE Chair-in-Office on Combating Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination, with particular reference to discrimination against Christians (2009).
	Professor under contract to the European University of Rome, 'Fundamental human rights in natural law and in international conventions' and 'History of the European institutions' (since 2008).
