	Councillor, City of Cambridge (1982-1990).
	Member of the European Parliament (since 1999). Vice-Chairman of the Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (since 1999).Chair, Liberal caucus to the European Convention (2002-2003); Vice-Chairman of European Parliamentary delegation to the Convention (2002-2003).
	Member of the Board of the Trans-European Policy Studies Association. Co-Chair, Federalist Intergroup for the European Constitution. Member of the Steering Committee, International European Movement.
