Binding annual greenhouse gas emission reductions to meet commitments under the Paris Agreement (A8-0208/2017 - Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour for ambitious reduction of greenhouse gas across the EU to deliver on Paris Agreement.

Request for the waiver of the immunity of Rolandas Paksas (Rule 150)

14-06-2017

Based on the information provided in this case there is no reason to suspect that the proceedings are motivated by an intent to damage the political activity of this Member of the European Parliament. The immunity was hence waived. That is why I have voted in favour

Request for the waiver of the immunity of Mylène Troszczynski (Rule 150)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour of the report since a request for waiver of the immunity of Mylène Troszczynski was forwarded by the Minister of Justice of the French Republic in connection with a judicial investigation on the grounds of public defamation and incitement to hatred or violence in respect of a person or group of persons on account of their origin or membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation, race or religion. The case concerns a tweet published on Ms Mylène Troszczynski's account.

Request for the waiver of the immunity of Jean-Marie Le Pen (Rule 150)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour of an application for waiver of the immunity of Jean-Marie Le Pen that was forwarded by the General Procurator at the Paris Court of Appeal relating to allegations made against Jean- Marie Le Pen of having made a statement during a radio broadcast amounting to incitement to discrimination, hatred or racial violence, which is a criminal offence under the French Criminal Code.

The need for an EU strategy to end and prevent the gender pension gap (A8-0197/2017 - Constance Le Grip)

14-06-2017

Today's gender pension gap (GPG) which is at nearly 40% (EU average) is an unacceptable manifestation of gender inequality and the reason for high female poverty in older age. S&D wants the Commission and the Member states to tackle the underlying causes for the GPG which are the gender pay gap (still at 16%), labour market segregation, part-time-work, stereotypes, lack of facilities for a better work-life -balance and discrimination. That is why I have voted in favour of this important report

2016 Report on Serbia (A8-0063/2017 - David McAllister)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour of the report, which welcomes the opening of the negotiation Chapters, including Chapter 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security) as the key chapters in the EU approach to enlargement based on the rule of law, as progress on these chapters remains essential for the overall pace of the negotiation process. However, the report also draws attention to problems in the country, such as media freedom, deteriorating conditions for freedom of expression, lack of transparency in the funding of political parties and election campaigns. The report also invites among other things Serbia to make further efforts to improve the situation of the Roma and to ensure consistent implementation across the country of legislation on protection of minorities.

2016 Report on Kosovo (A8-0062/2017 - Ulrike Lunacek)

14-06-2017

The entry into force of the EU-Kosovo Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) as a first contractual relationship is an essential step in order to continue the integration of Kosovo into the EU. The launch of the European Reform Agenda is also a very positive follow up and it will be a concrete platform to facilitate the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The S&D Group supports the European path of Kosovo. The S&D calls on the new government to continue to show clear political will and determination to implement the agreed roadmap. Regarding the persistent polarisation of the political landscape, the S&D Group call on all the parties to show responsibility and ownership and to create the conditions for a positive dialogue aimed at facilitating the progress of the country on its European path. That is why I have voted in favour of the report.

2016 Report on the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (A8-0055/2017 - Ivo Vajgl)

14-06-2017

I welcome the adoption of the report after several postponements and that there is a new government. This report calls on the new government to immediately pursue with vigour an inclusive and reformist consensus on the Pržino Agreement and Urgent Reform Priorities. That is why I have voted in favour of the report

Situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (RC-B8-0397/2017, B8-0397/2017, B8-0398/2017, B8-0399/2017, B8-0400/2017, B8-0401/2017, B8-0402/2017)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour of the resolution, which recalls the commitments made by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DCR) under the Cotonou Agreement to respect democracy, the rule of law and human rights, including freedom of expression and media, good governance and transparency in political office. The resolution calls on the DRC to guarantee the security of the population with full respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms

State of play of the implementation of the Sustainability Compact in Bangladesh (B8-0396/2017)

14-06-2017

I have voted in favour of this resolution, which follows up an Oral Question that was answered by the Commission in Strasbourg in April I. This resolution makes two requests from the EP. Firstly, we want to see the "Sustainability Compact" renewed when it expires in 2018. Its possible renewal will be discussed at the upcoming ILO convention in June. We want to see the Commission take a firm stance to renew the agreement, given that Bangladesh is still in no position on deliver on promised improvements alone. Secondly, we are also concerned that in recent months Bangladesh has been back sliding on workers rights and human rights in general. The motion for a resolution also supports the Commission and the EEAS announcement of an enhanced dialogue on labour and human rights with Bangladesh to achieve better compliance with the principles of the conventions listed in the Generalised System of Preferences regulation with a view to possibly withdrawing preferences in 2018.
