Public procurement strategy package (A8-0229/2018 - Carlos Coelho)

04-10-2018

The Public Procurement Strategy Package is one that will ensure a public procurement strategy that is more accessible to the citizen and entities of both a public and private sector. It further increase transparency on matters of public procurement, which may not be presently enforced across all EU member state.
I therefore voted in favour of a report that is aimed at improving public procurement methods and the livelihoods of our citizens. The European Union needs a system of e-procurement that will mean more transparency, more accessibility and better interaction between the administration and the people making use of the platform.

EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) (A8-0320/2017 - Axel Voss)

04-10-2018

I have voted in favour of this report because a strengthened Eurojust should help in ensuring that there is better and more efficient judicial cooperation across the European Union. In doing so one will further elevate the fight against serious crime, with the inclusion of terrorism.

Mutual recognition of freezing and confiscation orders (A8-0001/2018 - Nathalie Griesbeck)

04-10-2018

I have voted in favour of a report that will help crack down on money laundering and organised crime. It is intent on making it harder for organised criminals to access illegally gained funds, whilst making it easier for authorities at both a local and European level to freeze and confiscate illegally obtained assets across borders. These new rules will allow law enforcement authorities to deprive criminals from gaining access to proceeds that are derived from crime, with this will also come the possibility to compensate the victims who may have suffered from the crime itself. The European Union must ensure that all is done in terms of proportionality, whilst also taking account of fundamental rights and procedural safeguards.

Free flow of non-personal data in the European Union (A8-0201/2018 - Anna Maria Corazza Bildt)

04-10-2018

This adoption of this regulation will represent a major step forward to achieving a European Digital Single Market with increased competition and more choice for the consumers. With its implementation, there is more flexibility for cloud services, ensuring that businesses are free to choose the most cost-effective location for IT resources, to be able to switch between service providers and to be free to make full use of cloud services without endangering the protection of personal data.

The EU's input on a UN binding instrument on transnational corporations with respect to human rights (B8-0443/2018, B8-0472/2018, B8-0473/2018, B8-0474/2018)

04-10-2018

I have voted in favour of this resolution as it seeks to hold transnational corporations accountable for direct and indirect human rights violations, including violations of sanctions and in view of poor implementation of UNGPs without upholding the internationally recognised standards in this regard.

Situation in Yemen (RC-B8-0444/2018, B8-0444/2018, B8-0445/2018, B8-0446/2018, B8-0447/2018, B8-0448/2018, B8-0449/2018, B8-0450/2018)

04-10-2018

In this resolution, the European Parliament is intent on promoting a political solution to the conflict in Yemen, whilst holding those who have committed war crimes accountable for their actions. It is in this respect that I voted in favour of this resolution, with an underlying support to the efforts of the UN Secretary General Special Envoy to Yemen. The people of Yemen have suffered more than enough; as such, one must support this call on all sides to meet their responsibilities.

Fighting customs fraud and protecting EU own resources (B8-0400/2018)

04-10-2018

Whilst one appreciates that the fight against fraud is one that must be taken aboard by all member states, it should not mean that European Union could not impinge on member state competences. This resolution is one I have voted against, in lieu of reservations regarding a possible definite VAT system, which may also impinge on some current conditions concerning VAT. Additionally, one disagrees with the possible suggestion of responsibility transfer from national custom authorities to authorities at an EU level.

Harmonising and simplifying certain rules in the VAT system (A8-0280/2018 - Jeppe Kofod)

03-10-2018

The VAT gap, between the amount of VAT revenue actually collected and the theoretical amount keeps on increasing. It is for this reason that the report aims to create a comprehensive reform of the VAY system that will facilitate and simplify cross-border Intra-EU trade.
Therefore, I voted in favour of a report that seeks to combat VAT Fraud whilst also ensuring a comprehensive approach to create a comprehensive reform.

VAT: period of application of the reverse charge mechanism and of the Quick Reaction Mechanism (A8-0283/2018 - Sirpa Pietikäinen)

03-10-2018

I have voted in favour of this report since it allows member states to react quickly to detect cases of VAT Fraud. The report will in itself create a definitive system to address the urgent matter of VAT Fraud, which is still present in the European Union.

Administrative cooperation in the field of excise duties as regards the content of electronic register (A8-0285/2018 - Ivana Maletić)

03-10-2018

I voted in favour of this file since it seeks to prevent tax evasion and to simplify administrative procedures. The digitization of procedures and administrative cooperation between EU member states is key to ensure an effective tool to fight fraud and tax evasion.
