Written explanations of vote

Copyright in the Digital Single Market (A8-0245/2018 - Axel Voss)

05-07-2018

I voted against giving a mandate for inter- institutional discussions because , as is, the report does not strike a fair and adequate balance between the stakeholders involved. I also voted against because such an important legislation should be debated in plenary to ensure more transparency and democracy. It should be the entire House of representatives to vote on this issue which effects the digital world. Hence my vote against the mandate.

European citizens’ initiative (A8-0226/2018 - György Schöpflin)

05-07-2018

I have voted in favour of the mandate since the report adopted in AFCO reinforces citizenship of the EU and enhances further the democratic functioning of the Union by providing that every citizen has the right to participate in the democratic life of the EU.
The report improves the European citizens' initiative as a Union instrument of participatory democracy.

Launch of automated data exchange with regard to DNA data in Croatia (A8-0225/2018 - Jaromír Štětina)

05-07-2018

I voted in favour of this report as it addresses data exchange between countries. Thus, it may increase the likelihood that investigations may be more efficient for local and European enforcement authorities. An added partner country, now member to the Union, may only yield to beneficial results for the safety of our Union.

Financial rules applicable to the general budget of the Union (A8-0211/2017 - Ingeborg Gräßle, Richard Ashworth)

05-07-2018

I voted in favour of more transparency with regard to the General Budget of the European Union. Financial rules applicable to this General Budget means that there will be more control on the Union's spending, such that there will be more accountability as to the manner in which EU Taxpayers money is being spent.

European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) (A8-0322/2017 - Kinga Gál)

05-07-2018

ETIAS is a counteractive measure created by the European Union to protect all individuals residing or citizens in the EU. It is attained since ETIAS incorporates a database which stores information on individuals with criminal history, so as to ascertain that any individuals that cross-borders are not given entry if they are what may be considered a "threat" to the Union or its people. Thus, I voted in favour with the intention of protecting the European Citizen and all individuals who reside or will reside in the Union.

European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS): Europol tasks (A8-0323/2017 - Kinga Gál)

Furthermore, it is essential to make sure that Europol to make sure that Europol are endowed with tasks to better monitor the European Travel Information and Authorisation System.

European Agency for the operational management of large-scale IT systems in the area of freedom, security and justice (A8-0404/2017 - Monica Macovei)

05-07-2018

I voted in favour of this report as it will be in the best interest of the European citizen. All systems in the area of freedom, security and justice should be supported as long as it remain in line with the legislation in these areas, and the competencies conferred on member states should not be impinged on. Furthermore, I voted in favour of additional security where IT systems through added online monitoring that EU-LISA provides.

2019 budget - Trilogue mandate (A8-0247/2018 - Daniele Viotti)

05-07-2018

The 2019 budget should be one aimed at benefiting the citizens in all aspects of life, this means that the budget should incorporate measures to have an economy that is more sustainable, aimed at reducing inequality, higher employability rates and more economic growth. Therefore, I voted in favour of this 2019 budget since it does incorporate the socio-economic policy, whilst looking into other matters amongst which is the incorporation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

73rd Session of the UN General Assembly (A8-0230/2018 - Eugen Freund)

05-07-2018

I have voted in favour of the report because EU’s Global Strategy reflects the level of today’s global challenges, which require a strong and more efficient UN and a deepening of cooperation at Member State level both within the EU and the UN. However, I have never supported any references to abortion and women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, which, in my opinion, are strictly a competence of the Member States.

The migration crisis and humanitarian situation in Venezuela and at its borders (RC-B8-0315/2018, B8-0315/2018, B8-0316/2018, B8-0317/2018, B8-0318/2018, B8-0319/2018, B8-0320/2018, B8-0321/2018)

05-07-2018

I have voted in favour of the resolution, which urges the Venezuelan authorities to acknowledge the ongoing humanitarian crisis, prevent its further deterioration, and promote political and economic solutions to ensure the safety of all civilians and stability for the country and the region
