Agreement between the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway on an EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 (A8-0072/2017 - David Borrelli)

18-05-2017

I voted in favour of allowing Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein to participate fully in the single market. These three countries have also contributed to the alleviation of economic and social disparities in the EEA on the basis of Article 115 of the EEA agreement.

The right funding mix for Europe’s regions: balancing financial instruments and grants in EU cohesion policy (A8-0139/2017 - Andrey Novakov)

18-05-2017

I voted in favour of the report, which offers recommendations on the funding mix of grants and financial instruments. 2007-2013 programing period: The performance of Cohesion Policy through the turbulent financial and economic period after 2008 appeared as solid proof of EU’s ability to support recovery and growth objectives. 2014-2020 programming period: The current programming period came with a number of improvements. The Common Provision Regulation (CPR) introduced enhanced ESI Funds delivery through grants and financial instruments and allowed for deployment of financial instruments also through the Cohesion Fund (CF), European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). The issue of simplification of EU funding, while avoiding the one-size-fits-all approach, as well as, questions of synergies and technical assistance are also considered within the report.

Future perspectives for technical assistance in cohesion policy (A8-0180/2017 - Ruža Tomašić)

18-05-2017

I voted in favour of increasing the value-added, transparency, and result-orientation of the technical assistance provided by the implementation of the EU Structural and Investment Funds. The report also points out that local and regional activities ought to have greater access to the activities financed under technical assistance.

Cross-border portability of online content services in the internal market (A8-0378/2016 - Jean-Marie Cavada)

18-05-2017

I voted in favour of increasing the portability of cross-border online content services within the internal market which will be beneficial to consumers and at the same time give legal certainty to the providers. Consumers will be allowed to access subscriptions for online music, film, or sports broadcasting services when travelling between Member States.

Implementation of the EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement (A8-0123/2017 - Adam Szejnfeld)

18-05-2017

I voted in favour of analysing and verifying the following issues under the previously agreed upon Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and its Member States and the Republic of Korea: a) technical barriers to trade such as: the direct transport clause, the clause on repaired goods, the inclusion of truck tractors in the scope of the agreement, and - equally important - the issue of the rules and procedures governing certificates for machines exported to Korea; b) barriers in the area of sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, including: barriers restricting exports of EU beef and pork; c) intellectual property rights such as geographic destinations and commercial rights to the public performance of musical works; d) the chapter on trade and sustainable development, ratification and implementation by the Korean party of the fundamental Conventions of the International Labour Organization.

Mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund: application EGF/2016/008 FI/Nokia Network Systems (A8-0196/2017 - Petri Sarvamaa)

17-05-2017

I voted in favour of the proposal for a decision of the European Parliament and of the Council on the mobilization of the EGF on behalf of Finland. This report dictates that the EGF should be mobilized in order to provide a financial contribution of 2,641,800 éuros in respect of the application submitted by Finland. The contribution will go towards various Finnish Enterprises and 945 eligible workers.

Annual report 2014 on subsidiarity and proportionality (A8-0114/2017 - Sajjad Karim)

17-05-2017

I voted in favour of the report in which national parliaments refer to the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality when enacting laws. Building on previous reports and resolutions, consideration should be given to the introduction of a ‘red card’ procedure, whereby a number of national parliaments would be able to stay legislative proposals if they do not comply with the principle of subsidiarity unless their objections are duly accommodated, and to the introduction of a ‘green card’ mechanism, which will afford national parliaments the opportunity to propose the introduction, amendment or repeal of Union legislation. The Commission should carry out enhanced proportionality evaluations of the different alternatives at its disposal to ensure that only the minimum action necessary is taken to achieve regulatory objectives, and it should provide to the co-legislators with sufficiently detailed descriptions of all the different alternatives that had been considered so as to allow a better scrutiny of its proposals on proportionality grounds.

FinTech: the influence of technology on the future of the financial sector (A8-0176/2017 - Cora van Nieuwenhuizen)

17-05-2017

I voted in favour of the introduction of EU framework behind financial technology (FinTech). FinTech may be understood as finance enabled by new technologies, covering the whole range of financial services, products and infrastructure. It also includes Insurtech, the use of new technologies in insurance, and RegTech, the application of new technologies for regulatory compliance. FinTech can lead to significant benefits, such as cost reductions, efficiency gains and more transparency. It can be an effective tool for financial inclusion, opening up high-level services for those that could not afford them before. Furthermore, FinTech can enable cross-border financial flows and infrastructure through alternative lending and investment channels. FinTech is vital for future success in European and global financial markets.

Automated data exchange with regard to vehicle registration data in Croatia (A8-0171/2017 - Claude Moraes)

17-05-2017

The purpose of this report is to authorize Croatia to receive and supply vehicle registration data for the purpose of automated search and comparison, with the aim to facilitate and strengthen cross-border cooperation of responsible authorities in combatting terrorism and cross border crime. I voted in favour.

Protocol to the EU-Mongolia Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation (accession of Croatia) (A8-0074/2017 - Helmut Scholz)

16-05-2017

I voted in favour of taking account of the accession of the Republic of Croatia in the draft protocol to the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the European Union and its Member States, on the one part, and Mongolia, on the other part.
