The Conference of Presidents (made up of the EP President and the political group leaders) has approved unanimously a new Code of Conduct for members of the European Parliament. The Code sets out rules and principles which MEPs will need to follow in their contacts with outside interests and to avoid conflicts of interest.
Parliament has established, at the initiative of President Jerzy Buzek, a working group on codes of conduct for MEPs themselves and for representatives of outside interests. The group was established following media allegations of misconduct against a small number of MEPs. Parliament's political leadership endorsed on Thursday the creation of a working group under the chairmanship of President Buzek to prepare tighter codes of conduct for both lobbyists and MEPs themselves.
