Europa-Parlamentet i Strasbourg åbnede dørene den 8. maj for at fejre Europadagen 2016, den 66. årsdag for Schumanerklæringen, og mere end 19.000 besøgende tog imod tilbuddet. Europadagen fejres hvert år den 9. maj for at markere årsdagen for en erklæring fra den franske udenrigsminister Robert Schuman i 1950, der foreslog at oprette et Europæisk Kul- og Stålfællesskab. Pope Francis to be awarded Charlemagne Prize on 6 May

The award ceremony will take place at the Vatican on 6 May at 12:00. It will be introduced by “laudatio” speeches by European Parliament President Martin Schulz, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Council President Donald Tusk. On the previous day, the three EU Presidents will take part in a panel debate about the state of the EU, preceded by an address by Italian PM Matteo Renzi. Inter-religious dialogue to defeat radicalisation

How European Muslims deal with radicalisation and the role that women can play in countering it and promoting de-radicalisation were discussed in a conference held in the European Parliament on Tuesday. Projects on the ground and what to do to confront the phenomenon at national and EU levels were also debated with leading-edge experts. Selvkørende biler, autonome droner og robotter beskæftiget inden for medicin, landbrug eller i fremstillingsvirksomheder er den nye virkelighed. De moralske og faktiske juridiske udfordringer i dette samfundsmæssige skift er enorme, og lovgiverene skal være klar. Parlamentets Retsudvalg afholdt en høring i Europa-Parlamentet den 21. april. Debate with Taslima Nasreen - exile Bangladeshi  writer, feminist, a campaigner against extremism in all religions, Sakharov Prize Laureate, after the movie "My Jihad" of the One World Festival.  

Hvordan bliver folk radikaliserede, og hvordan kan det forhindres? Det var nogle af de spørgsmål, som Sakharovprismodtageren Laureate Taslima Nasreen, den britiske MEP’er Syed Kamall fra ECR-gruppen og Rudi Vranckx, forfatter og producer på dokumentarfilmen "My jihad", forsøgte at besvare under en debat den 19.4.i Europa-Parlamentet. Visningen af filmen "min Jihad" og debatten var arrangeret af Europa-Parlamentet som en del af One World Film Festival og i samarbejde med NGO People In Need. Europol stabschef, Brian Donald fortalte i et interview til den britiske avis The Observer i slutningen af januar 2016, at over 10.000 flygtninge- og migrantbørn kan være forsvundet efter ankomsten i Europa. P. Auštrevičius deplores the deadly bomb and gun attack in Kabul

Petras Auštrevičius (ALDE, LT), Chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Afghanistan, strongly condemned yesterday's bomb and gun attack in Kabul sending his condolences to the victims' families.
