Interview with Lebanon Prime Minister Tamam Salam  

Libanon, et land med lidt over fire millioner indbyggere, har siden konflikten i Syrien begyndte modtaget op mod 1,5 mio.flygtninge. "De deler vand, elektricitet, skoler og hospitaler med os. Libanon var ikke forberedt på dette, det er knap i stand til at håndtere sine egne behov," sagde Tammam Salam, Libanons premierminister. Han var i Europa-Parlamentet den 2. december for at diskutere Libanons mest presserende problemer, herunder bestræbelserne på at bremse ekstremisme fra Syrien. 28th Session of the Joint ACP Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU) in the European Parliament in Strasbourg  

We still too often view Africa “through a European or western prism”, said Louis Michel, European Co-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, at its 28th session on 1-3 December in Strasbourg. Today's Africa is no longer the "hopeless case" of the past but, on the contrary, it "can live up to its ambitions", said keynote speaker and former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo. Det internationale samfund har i 20 år kæmpet mod rekruttering af børnesoldater i krigszoner. Tusindvis af drenge og piger er allerede befriet. Afghanistan, Den Demokratiske Republik Congo, Myanmar, Sudan, Sydsudan, Somalia og Yemen er dog stadig på den sorte liste. Lux Prize: MEPs to choose among finalist films

The three finalist films competing for the 2014 Lux Prize will be screened at the European Parliament from 1 to 12 December. The films will also be shown at the Brussels fine arts centre BOZAR on 2 and 3 December, in the presence of their directors. The final three films competing for the prize this year are Class Enemy (Razredni sovražnik), by Rok Biček (Slovenia), Bande de filles, by Céline Sciamma (France) and Ida, by Paweł Pawlikowski (Poland/ Denmark) (Read more: Lux Prize: MEPs to choose among finalist films )

Giovanni Buttarelli named new data protection watchdog

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) will meet from 1 to 3 December 2014 in Strasbourg (France) to debate the Ebola virus outbreak and terrorism in Africa. The plenary debates will be preceded over the weekend by meetings of the JPA standing committees and the women’s forum. Treårtier med Europa-Parlamentets observationsmissioner

Dette år markerer 30-året for Europa-Parlamentets involvering i valgobservation. Som den eneste EU-institution valgt direkte af borgerne, er et en prioritet for EP at støtte demokratiet på verdensplan. I 2013 sendte Parlamentet delegationer for at overvåge valg i Armenien, Aserbajdsjan, Georgien, Honduras, Jordan, Kenya, Madagaskar, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, Paraguay og Tadsjikistan.
