Reactions to Tusk's “UK in EU” proposal dominate pre-summit debate

Social benefits for migrant workers in the UK, honesty versus populism and how to ensure respect for different countries' views on EU integration were the key issues raised by Parliament's political group leaders in Wednesday’s debate, with a view to the UK’s forthcoming EU membership referendum. Dutch Presidency priorities discussed in committee

I en uge mellem to Strasbourg plenarmøder diskuterer MEP'erne bl.a. den kontroversielle danske plan om at konfiskere asylansøgeres aktiver som kompensation for omkostningerne ved deres ophold. Retsudvalget stemmer om en uformel aftale med Rådet om beskyttelse af virksomheder mod misbrug af deres forretningshemmeligheder, mens Transportudvalget fastlægger sin holdning til et forslag fra Kommissionen om at åbne adgang til havnetjenester. A deal is a deal", said Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the kick-off debate of the Dutch Presidency in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Europa-Parlamentets formand Martin Schulz fordømte terrorangrebene i Istanbul og Ouagadougou den 12. og 15. januar og opfordrede til mere europæisk samarbejde for at bekæmpe terrorisme. Schulz sagde, at terrorisme skal bekæmpes på grundlag af demokratiske værdier, ved hjælp af politiet, retsstaten og europæisk samarbejde. MEPs quiz Commission's chief negotiator on progress ahead of UK referendum

These questions were put by members of Parliament's constitutional affairs committee to Jonathan Faull, head of the Commission's task force for strategic issues related to the UK referendum, in a debate on Thursday morning.
