MEPs go to Ukraine to observe parliamentary elections
Ukraine
A delegation of 15 MEPs will go to Ukraine on Friday to observe elections of its Parliament – the Verkhovna Rada – which will be held on 26th October. In meetings leading up to the election MEPs will meet representatives of Ukraine authorities and government and the political parties standing in the elections. On election day EP observers will work in seven cities - Kiev, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv and Dnjepropetrovsk. The delegation is chaired by MEP Andrej Plenković (HR, EPP). The elections are being held early, as the previous parliament was elected under the regime of Ukraine's former President Yanukovich, who was overthrown in spring 2014, thereby changing the political direction of the country.ò
