Quick Facts

The scrutiny group was set up after Parliament adopted new rules on Europol in May 2016. Stronger democratic scrutiny was a key objective for MEPs in the negotiations with EU Ministers in order to “politically monitor Europol’s activities in fulfilling its mission”, with particular attention to respect of fundamental rights and personal freedoms.
