Committee and political group meetings - Brussels

President Schulz/EU summit. EP President Martin Schulz will speak at the 28-29 June EU summit and debate with EU leaders, and then give a press conference. Growth and jobs, the EU budget 2014-2020 and Schengen will top the agenda. Before the summit, President Schulz will meet presidents van Rompuy and Barroso on Thursday morning to discuss the financing of EU policies in 2014-2020, in the afternoon he will meet the prime ministers of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.


Safer and greener motorbikes. Parliament representatives and the Danish Presidency will pursue negotiations for a deal on new rules to make motorbikes safer and more environmentally friendly (Monday).


Asylum/reception conditions. Parliament representatives and the Danish Presidency will seek an agreement on new legislation on detention conditions for asylum seekers.  The new law would also cover access to the labour market, free legal assistance and the identification of vulnerable asylum seekers (Wednesday). 


Home-made explosives. Talks will continue for a deal on a new law to restrict the general public's access to chemicals that can be used to make home-made explosives. These have been used in many terrorist attacks in recent years, such as the Norway bombings in July 2011 (Monday)


President's diary. On Wednesday afternoon, President Schulz will meet Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili and representatives of the European Trade Union Confederation.


Preparing for the plenary. Parliament's political groups will prepare for the 2-7 July plenary session, in Strasbourg, where there will be votes on the Anti-counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), bank capital requirements and bankers' bonuses, the European patent, access to basic banking services, the eCall in-car emergency call system, animal welfare and protection, the mandate for Parliament's negotiators in upcoming 2013 budget talks with the Council and the compulsory use of digital tachographs in lorries. MEPs will also debate priorities for the incoming EU Presidency (Cyprus takes over in July) and take stock of the outgoing Danish one.


Pre-session press briefing. The regular briefing by the EP Press Service and political group spokespeople will be held on Friday 29 June at 11 a.m. (Anna Politkovskaya Room, PHS 0A050).
