Parliament set to support greener and safer watercraft

New rules to make watercraft greener and safer will be debated on Tuesday and put to a vote on Wednesday. The industry will have three years to comply with new exhaust emission limits, which will reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions by 20%. In addition tiller-controlled outboard engines will have to be equipped with an emergency stopping device.

The updated EU rules on the safety and environmental performance of recreational craft and personal watercraft cover vessels between 2.5 and 24 metres in length, such as motor boats, sailing yachts and water scooters.

Procedure: Co-decision (Ordinary Legislative Procedure), first reading agreement
