      1. AFET delegation to South Caucasus 

        South Caucasus. An eight-strong Foreign Affairs Committee delegation, led by its Chair David McAllister (EPP, DE), will travel to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia on 22-25 May to meet the heads of the three countries and civil society representatives to foster EU-South Caucasus relations and to prepare EP’s recommendation on a recent deal on a new EU-Armenia agreement and on the advancement of negotiations on a new EU-Azerbaijan agreement. (Monday to Thursday)

      2. DROI delegation to Uzbekistan 

        A three-strong Human Rights Subcommittee (DROI) delegation led by Josef Weidenholzer (S&D, AT) will visit Uzbekistan on 22-24 May 2017 to address concerns regarding the human rights situation, the situation of the representation of civil society and the political opposition, and the progress being made towards the eradication of child labour and forced labour. DROI MEPs plan to meet with the Oliy Majlis (the Uzbek National Assembly), and government representatives, with UN agencies, NGOs based in Uzbekistan, leaders from the opposition and civil society representatives.

      3. EMPL delegation to Tallinn (Estonia) 

        An EMPL delegation will travel to Tallinn from 22-24 May. The main purpose will be to study the employment and social effects of a highly advanced digital economy and to establish contacts with social partners and other stakeholders on the establishment of a European Pillar of Social Rights and the most recent developments regarding the free movement of persons in the EU.

      4. INTA delegation to Indonesia 

        Trade agreements/Indonesia. A delegation of the International Trade Committee will be in Indonesia this week to discuss the scope and the potential of the new free trade deal with governmental, parliamentary, civil society and industry representatives. Trade negotiations with Indonesia were launched in July 2016. (Monday to Wednesday)

      5. ITRE mission to Poland 

        Five members of the committee on industry, research and energy - Jerzy BUZEK (Chair, EPP), Michał BONI (EPP), Maria SPYRAKI (EPP), Krystyna ŁYBACKA (S&D), Zdzislaw KRASNODEBSKI (ECR) – will go on a delegation to Poland (Warsaw and Krakow) between 22 and 24 May. The focus of their mission will be on one hand on digital transformation, Start Ups in the digital sector, opportunities and challenges in innovation and technology, and on the other on R&D in energy.

      6. SEDE delegation to Japan 

        Japan. A delegation of the Security and Defence subcommittee, led by its chair Ms. Anna Fotyga (ECR, PL), will visit Japan between 22 and 25 May to support EU-Japan cooperation on security and to take stock of recent Japan’s defence reforms amid growing regional security concerns on North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.         AFCO delegation to Belgrade, Serbia 

        Members of the Constitutional Affairs Committee will travel to the Serbian capital Belgrade to exchange views with national authorities and NGOs on constitutional aspects of a possible Serbian accession to the European Union and the impact of the accession on the institutional organisation of Serbia. They will also discuss the steps accomplished by Serbia in what concerns the country's respect of the fundamental values of the EU and rule of law.

        BUDG delegation to Tunisia 
        • Six members of the Committee on Budgets will visit Tunisia from 21 to 25 May 2017. They will visit EU-funded projects, meet the President of the Tunisian Parliament, Chairpersons of parliamentary committees, members of the government and representatives of international partners (World Bank, IMF, BEI BERD, AfD, KfW), among others. Tunisia is an important European partner, notably in tackling migration and security issues, and benefits from EU assistance from several programmes.

        The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs is organising a delegation to Athens and the Hotspots from 22 to 25 May.


        The members participating will first meet with Greek Ombudsman/ NGOs from the Asylum campaign and lawyers dealing with appeals cases, then the Minister for Immigration Policy - Ioannis Mouzalas.


        In smaller groups, they will have the oppotunity to visit the hotspots Pily and Moria acompanied by Minister Mouzalas, and to meet with UNHCR, NGOs, asylum seekers, and also with stakeholders active in the hotspot notably EASO, FRONTEX.

        PETI fact-finding delegation to Spain

        Members of the Petitions Committee will go to Spain (Madrid) for a fact-finding mission on 22-23 May. The petitions that constitutes the base of this mission are related to cases of babies that allegedly have gone missing at birth by personnel working in various hospitals in Spain. The petitioners the Spanish authorities to cooperate better when it comes to establishing the truth and, when possible, they ask for more help in order to reunite the parents and the missing children.

        The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality is sending a delegation to Warsaw in Poland from 22 to 24 May.

        The objective of the mission will be to observe and evaluate the situation of women’s rights in Poland. Women's rights members will give a special focus on three sets of issues: the implementation of the Istanbul convention with a special attention to the victims of violence; current debates about the sexual and reproductive rights; and women’s economic empowerment in Poland, including work-life balance.

        A delegation of six Members of the Committee on Fisheries  will visit Madeira, Portugal from 22 till 25 May. MEPs will visit the Regional Parliament of Madeira and also local fish markets and harbours where they will hold meetings with local fishermen. They will also check some aquaculture facilities and seaports where they will visit traditional tuna fishing fleets and hold meetings with local stakeholders.

      1. European Charlemagne Youth Prize: award ceremony in Aachen 

        On Tuesday 23 May 2017 the three final European winners of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize (ECYP) will be announced at an award ceremony in Aachen (Germany). The ceremony will take place from 11.00 til 13.00 in the Aachen Town Hall in the presence of Sylvie Guillaume, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, former President of the European Parliament, Michael Jansen, Chairman of the Charlemagne Prize foundation and Marcel Philipp, Lord Major of the city of Aachen.


        The three winners will be chosen from 28 national projects, submitted by national juries. In total 245 projects were submitted in all EU Member States. The competition is open to young people aged between 16 and 30 who have been involved with projects run by and for youth showing an active participation in the development of Europe.


        Now in its 10th year, the ECYP is organised by the European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen. The prize for the best project is €7500, the second €5000 and the third €2500. As part of the prize, the three European laureates are invited to visit the European Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg.

        In smaller groups, they will have the oppotunity to visit the hotspots Pily and Moria acompanied by Minister Mouzalas, and to meet with UNHCR, NGOs, asylum seekers, and also with stakeholders active in the hotspot notably EASO, FRONTEX.
