Antonio Tajani made his first official visit to Spain as president of the European Parliament on 10 February. During the visit he met several political leaders as well as representatives from civil society and Spanish companies.

The visit began at the Spanish parliament where Tajani met Ana Pastor, president of the lower house, and Pío García-Escudero, president of the upper house. Afterwards he met prime minister Mariano Rajoy at his official residence.

The Parliament President also attended a lunch by King Felipe VI on the occasion of the XI COTEC Europe Summit, the first summit of European heads of state dedicated to the circular economy. This was also attended by Italian president Sergio Mattarella and Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

In the afternoon Tajani held a series of meetings with representatives from civil society at the European Parliament's office in Madrid, including one with the president of the ONCE organisation to discuss how to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in Europe. At the end of the day he also with some Spanish entrepreneurs, including representatives from small and medium-sized enterprises.
