State of the Union - Statement by the President of the Commission
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, elected last year by Parliament based on the outcome of the European elections, is to deliver his State of the European Union speech in plenary on September 9 2015, from 09:00 CET.
The State of the Union debate is an important element of the European Parliament's scrutiny of the work of the European Commission. Parliament is Europe's directly elected institution and democratic oversight of the workings of the EU is, alongside legislation, the fundamental mission member states have entrusted it with.
