At this hearing, organised by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, experts will present their views in two discussion panels: one will address the application of the equal pay provisions in practice and the second looks at improving equal opportunities.
This hearing is related to the draft report on " the application of Directive 2006/54/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 July 2006 on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation" (rapporteur Anna ZÁBORSKÁ (EPP, SK).

The Committee on International Trade and the Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a hearing about human right and technologies. The hearing will address the threats to human rights of intrusive and surveillance technologies, looking at the various fields of use, the legal environment and the commercial implications. The hearing will also provide information for the upcoming European Parliament own-initiative report on Human rights and technologies: the impact of digital surveillance and intrusion systems in third countries.

The Subcommittee on Security and Defence will hold on Tuesday a hearing on the impacts of the situation in the Sahel, facing the challenges of unresolved tensions, violent extremism, radicalisation, illicit trafficking and terrorist-linked security threats, on the security of the EU. Dr Cristina Barrios from the EU ISS and General Pierre-Michel Joana, Chief coordinator of EU projects for support to the fight against terrorism in the Sahel and former EU Special Adviser "Peace and Security in Africa", will take part in the hearing.

MEPs from the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee will assess the situation of human rights in Hungary with experts in a hearing taking place on Thursday, 22 January, from 9.00 to 11.00. The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection will hold a hearing about customs infringements and sanctions.The first section of the hearing will focus on the different customs sanctioning systems in the Member States: their definition of the legal nature of customs sanction, thresholds to distinguish between criminal and non-criminal infringements and sanctions, requirements to establish the economic operator’s liability for the customs infringements, the time limits to initiate a customs sanction, the procedure and the definition of the legal persons' liability. The second section will focus on the impact of the absence of an EU legal framework for sanctions on the functioning of the single market, on economic operators and on counterfeiting.

The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will organise a hearing on Interoperability solutions for European public administrations, businesses and citizens (ISA2). ISA2 is a new programme proposed by the commission in June 2014. The aim of ISA2 is to help Member States to modernise their administrations and provide interoperable digital services at national and European level. ISA2 should make it easier for administrations to interact between different sectors and across borders.

The Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development will organise a workshop to discuss with experts how to best reform EU rules concerning the fruit and vegetables sector. Their input should help MEPs better understand current problems and future challenges for fruit and vegetable producers. The committee will in coming weeks draft a report, in response to Commission's assessment of the situation in the sector, setting Parliament's priorities ahead of the future revision of the EU fruit and vegetable regime.
