Situation of fundamental rights in the European UnionBrussels, Paul-Henri Spaak, 1A2
Organised by the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, this hearing brings together institutional actors, researchers and civil society organisations to discuss the situation of fundamental rights in the European Union. The hearing aims to contribute to the on-going dialogue on the mechanisms and methods to better safeguard the rule of law and the fundamental rights of persons in the EU, as well as to allow for an assessment of the Union's efforts to protect and promote its common values.
The first session will focus on the EU's recent initiatives to protect and promote fundamental rights and the rule of law and on its institutional framework in this area, and the second on specific threats to fundamental rights in the EU. The recent study on "The impact of the crisis on fundamental rights across the Member States of the EU," carried out at the Civil Liberties Committee's request, will also be presented.
