Committee meetings, Brussels

60th anniversary of the Rome treaties. To mark the occasion, the EP will hold a “Citizens’ Parliament”, bringing together people from all over the EU to discuss the future of the EU in the plenary chamber, on Tuesday.

On Friday, there will be a special meeting of the EP Conference of Presidents (EP President and political groups’ leaders) and the Bureau (Vice-Presidents and Quaestors) in Norcia, Italy, in the region hit by the recent earthquakes, where they will also meet Italy’s Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. President Tajani and the presidents of the other two EU institutions will meet Pope Francis later in Rome.

On Saturday, President Tajani will deliver a speech at the 60th anniversary celebration, sign the Rome Declaration on behalf of Parliament and take part in a joint press conference with the leaders of the other EU institutions.

Protection against online fraud. National authorities would have more powers to enforce consumer rights, e.g. by checking whether websites geo-block consumers or to order the taking down of websites that host scams, under draft rules to be voted by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. These aim to tackle the most common practices harming online consumers, from abuse of online games for children to unfair contract terms for renting cars. (Tuesday)

Books for visually impaired people. Draft legislation providing for copyright exceptions to facilitate access to books and other print material for blind and visually impaired people will be up for a vote in the Legal Affairs Committee. The proposal would help make available works in accessible formats such as Braille, large print, e-books and audiobooks. (Thursday)

Rule of law in Poland. Civil Liberties Committee MEPs will debate the ongoing EU Commission probe into respect for the rule of law in Poland, with Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans. (Wednesday)

Clothing industry. The Commission should table a draft law to improve conditions for millions of workers in the global textile and clothing industry, Development Committee MEPs are likely to agree. They may call for binding due diligence checks throughout the whole supply chain, conditional trade preferences, and clothes labels. (Tuesday)

President's diary. EP President Antonio Tajani will participate in the inauguration in Schuman Square of the "Monument in memory of victims” of the Brussels terror attacks, which took place a year ago, on Wednesday. On the same day, he will meet Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. On Thursday, President Tajani will meet Panama’s Vice- President Isabel De Saint Malo De Alvarado.

Press briefing. The EP Press Service will hold a press briefing on the week's activities at 11.00 on Monday, in the “Anna Politkovskaya” EP press conference room, Brussels. Ask #EPressbriefing @EuroParlPress questions on committees' work.
