      1. AFET delegation to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan 

        Foreign affairs committee is sending a delegation of seven MEPs to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to meet the ministers and heads of parliamentary bodies to take stock of the implementation of EU-Kazakhstan cooperation agreement and an early conclusion of negotiations on the new agreement with Uzbekistan. They will also seek to strengthen relations on nuclear non-proliferation efforts, counter-terrorism, regional security, the rule of law, governance and human rights. (Monday to Thursday)

      2. ECON delegation to China 

        MEPs from the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will go for a four-day visit (17.-20.9.) to Beijing and Shanghai where they met top officials, regulators and industry representatives.

        CULT Mission to San Francisco / Silicon Valley (USA) 

        From 17 to 20 September, a delegation from the Education and Culture Committee will travel to San Francisco and Silicon Valley where they will meet representatives from business (Google, Facebook, Netflix, Apple, Universal Music and Airbnb), academia (University of California, Berkeley, and University of Stanford) and civil society. The delegation will be exploring creative content regulation (copyright, AVMSD), developments in the creative and audiovisual sector, digital skills, fake news and disinformation, the impact of digital technology on children and young people and on education and culture, education and research funding and EU-US cooperation in culture and education.

        LIBE delegation to Slovakia and Malta - Rule of law 

        17-20 September

        A Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee delegation will go to Slovakia and Malta next week to assess the rule of law, corruption and the safety of journalists.

        To this end, they will meet members of both governments, police and judicial authorities, journalists and NGOs. Meetings are also scheduled with representatives of the families of murdered journalists Ján Kuciak and Daphne Caruana Galizia.

        This delegation will follow up previous missions to both countries after the assassinations of Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová, and Daphne Caruana Galizia. The new monitoring group on rule of law and the fight against corruption, set up within the Civil Liberties Committee to address the situation in these two member states in particular, recommended a new visit to Bratislava and Valetta to gather further insights.

        FEMM delegation to EIGE (Vilnius, Lithuania) 

        17-18 September

        A delegation of two Members from the Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee (FEMM) will visit the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE). The aim of the visit is to take stock of the current initiatives that EIGE is undertaking.

        FEMM Members will meet  EIGE experts who will present their recent research in fields such as gender-based violence, trafficking in human beings, the gender pay and pension gaps - particularly in the context of the next Gender Equality Index - and the gender digital gap.

        The visit will also serve to discuss opportunities for cooperation in relation to the next European elections and the 2019 edition of International Women's Day.

        In the context of the next European Parliament elections, MEPs will discuss the opportunities to bring gender equality forward during the campaigning.

      1. Delegation to Palestine 

        MEPs from the Delegation for Relations with Palestine will travel to the Occupied Territories to meet with authorities, civil society organisations, community leaders and human rights defenders. They will assess the political situation in the West Bank and Gaza and the prospects for a future Palestinian state amid the U.S. decision to recognise Jerusalem as capital of Israel and cut funding for UNRWA. They will also assess the human rights situation and look into the use of EU aid, the increased demolition of EU-funded projects and the accelerated expansion of illegal Israeli settlements. (Tuesday to Thursday)

        A seven-member delegation of the INTA Committee holds talks in Japan prior to taking its final stand on the Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Japan. The MEPs aim to discuss various aspects of the trade deal, including timber trade, measures to help exports by small and medium sized enterprises, and the prospects for Japan’s ratification of certain labour standards. The delegation is also expected to urge Japan to ensure rapid and efficient implementation of the agreement once it enters into force. (Tuesday to Thursday)

        A delegation of members of the Committee on Regional Development will visit one of France's outermost regions, the department of La Réunion, an island located in the Indian Ocean, from 18-21 September. The members will meet with regional and local authorities and visit innovative industry sites, the University of La Réunion.

        To mark the International Day of Democracy the European Parliament will host a high level conference “EU Leadership for Democracy” on 18 September. Former MEPs, representatives of civil society and NGOs as well as journalist will debate the current challenges facing democracies, the role of social media on politics as well as ways to advance democracy through female leadership and engagement.
