National Angle on President Buzek's visit to Ireland

President Buzek made an official visit to Ireland on 11 and 12 July 2011, meeting with top Irish Government leaders, visiting both Houses of the Irish Parliament, addressing members of the Polish Community in Ireland, and also with cross-border groups receiving EU funding in the course of a visit to the site of the historic Battle of the Boyne. Europe & Me" wins European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2011

Two Irish journalists have been selected as the Irish nominees for this year's European Parliament Journalism Prize. 355 journalists submitted applications across the EU's 27 Member States and in October of this year, the prize, now in its fourth year, will be awarded to four journalists in the categories of print journalism, radio, TV and internet. UK nominations for the EP prize for journalism 2011

The UK nominations for the EP Prize for Journalism have been selected and will now compete for the €5,000 prizes against entries from other EU Member States. The radio category winner was Chris Bowlby, for a piece broadcast on BBC Radio 4, while the written press category winner was Ewan Pate for a piece written for the Scottish regional paper The Courier. British nominee announced for European Youth Prize

Europe & Me, an online lifestyle magazine created by young Europeans for young Europeans has been chosen as the UK entry for this year's Charlemagne European Youth Prize. Irish nominee announced for European Youth Prize

'Show Racism the Red Card', an intercultural camp for 11-16 year old boys and girls, has been chosen as the Irish entry for this year's Charlemagne European Youth Prize, which will be awarded in Aachen, Germany on 31 May. Isajeva Darja, a young Latvian organiser living in Ireland, submitted the project as an example of a project which brought together young people from a number of different countries, promoting an understanding among them of the values of integration and cultural diversity. Launch of next year's Charlemagne Youth Prize

The selection procedure for next year's European Charlemagne Youth Prize was launched on Wednesday. The prize is awarded to young people who have been involved in projects to promote understanding between people from different European countries. Are you aged between 16 and 30? Have you been part of a project that encouraged a better understanding between Europeans? The European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize are searching for projects that foster a shared sense of European identity and cooperation. Irish students choose their candidate for this year's EP Sakharov prize

At an event last week in Galway, Aminatou Haidar was chosen by students from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland in Galway as their candidate to win this year's European Parliament Sakharov prize. Aminatou Haidar, who is a Sahrawi human rights defender and political activist for the independence of Western Sahara, is one of the nine European Parliament nominees for the 2010 prize. Journalism prize: James Clive-Matthews on his "Nosemonkey" blog

The winners of this year's European Parliament Journalism Prize received their awards at a ceremony in Brussels on 13 October. There were four categories: written press, radio, TV and the Internet. The Internet prize was won by UK blogger James Clive-Matthews - also known as "Nosemonkey" - for his article "EUtopia - What percentage of laws come from the EU?".
