A trainee's insight into working for the EP Information Office in London

Whilst searching for jobs last autumn, a friend sent me a link to traineeships for university graduates at the EP. As a keen linguist and politics enthusiast, I decided to apply and in December was delighted to learn that I had been accepted as a trainee at the Information Office in London for five months in March. Election night  

Following weeks of hard work and a massive 'go to vote' campaign on social media, EPIO United Kingdom hosted an election night event to hear and discuss the election results. This was one of the largest events ever hosted at Europe House with over 240 participants, including MEP candidates, academics, think-tankers and the general public. How to vote in the European elections?  

In the coming days, millions across the UK will cast their votes in the world's second largest democratic election. With the law-making role of the European Parliament much bigger and turnout traditionally low, engaging with every community and ensuring they can make an informed choice has never been so critical. In view of the upcoming European Parliament elections on 22 May, The European Parliament Information Office in Edinburgh held a REACT-style event on 24 January 2014, on the eve of Burns' Night, at the Scottish National Gallery. The event took place as part of the four-phase ACT.REACT.IMPACT campaign launched by the European Parliament in the run-up to the Elections focusing on the topic of Quality of Life. President Schulz visits UK and awards Citizens Prize

During the G8 Speakers meeting in London last week Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament meet with Ed Milliband and made time for a courtesy call on the Houses of Parliament Lord Speaker Baroness D'Souza and Commons Speaker John Bercow MP. The Selfish Giant among the three finalists for the LUX Prize 2013.

The UK production The Selfish Giant by Clio Barnard has been announced as a potential candidate to win the European Parliament LUX Prize, among two other finalists, Miele, by Valeria Golino, a Franco-Italian production and The Broken Circle Breakdown, by Felix van Groeningen – Belgium. The finalists were unveiled on Tuesday 23rd July, at the Venice Days press conference, by the EP Vice President Gianni Pittella (S&D, Italy) and MEP Silvia Costa (S&D, Italy). Professor Richard Demarco, CISV International, and the AIRE Centre are among the 43 winners of the European Citizen's Prize 2013 of the European Parliament. Since 2008, the prize has been awarded to citizens or organisations having contributed to promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration between citizens or to facilitating cross-border or transnational cooperation within the EU. The Gaelic Athletic Association / Cumann Lúthchleas Gael which was nominated for the European Citizen's Prize 2013 by Sean KELLY MEP, is among the 43 winners of the European Citizen's Prize 2013 of the European Parliament. A national jury, made up of Phil PRENDERGAST MEP, Marian HARKIN MEP and Gay MITCHELL MEP endorsed the nomination. Since 2008, the prize has been awarded to citizens or organisations having contributed to promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration between citizens or to facilitating cross-border or transnational cooperation within the EU.
