European Parliamentary Week: MPs in Brussels to debate economy, jobs and budget

The European Parliament will welcome national MPs from across Europe on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 February for joint debates with MEPs on the European Semester Cycles 2015/2016 (Tuesday) and on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union (Wednesday). Both events are being held as part of the 2016 edition of the European Parliamentary Week (#EPW16).

Tuesday 16 February


The interparliamentary meeting on the European Semester Cycles 2015/2016 will focus on recently-proposed changes to the European semester process and especially on the role that the European and national parliaments play in it.


European Parliament President Martin Schulz, European Council President Donald Tusk and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will address the plenary session at the start of the meeting. Other speakers include Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis (Euro and Social Dialogue) and Commissioner Pierre Moscovici (Economic and financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs). Tuesday afternoon is dedicated to interparliamentary committee meetings, organised by the Economic and Monetary Affairs, Employment and Social affairs and Budgets committees. More information on the #EPW16 website.


Wednesday 17 February


An interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union, co-hosted and co-chaired by the Netherlands Parliament, will focus on improving cooperation between national parliaments and the European Parliament to ensure democratic accountability in the economic governance and budgetary policy field in the EU and particularly in the EMU.
