Free Food Scheme: MEPs call for swift action to ensure proper funding

Plenary Session Social policy 28-09-2011 - 10:04

The Council and Commission must take prompt action to avert a sharp cutback in funding of the Free Food scheme, an EU programme for the needy with more than 13 million beneficiaries, said MEPs across the board in today's debate with Commissioner Dacian Cioloş and Polish Minister Marek Sawicki.

MEPs also denounced the six Member States which are blocking debate in the Council on ways to save the scheme and asked the Polish Presidency to help to end the impasse.
