Briefings and press conferences

The Directorate for Media organises briefings and press conferences either on its own initiative or at the request of Parliament bodies, political groups and Members.

In the run-up to each part-session, the Media Directorate also organises:

a PRE-SESSION BRIEFING held in Brussels at 11 a.m. on the Friday prior to each part-session in Strasbourg and attended by the political group press officers;
a 'LAST-MINUTE' BRIEFING' held in Strasbourg at 4.30 p.m. - half an hour before the start of the sitting - on the Monday of each part-session week.

Audiovisual newsdesk

To help media professionals with their research, the Hotline can provide journalists with relevant and in-depth information, without intervening in their editorial decisions. The Audiovisual unit's Hotline Newsdesk helps broadcast journalists find specific information for news reports or programmes about Europe. The Hotline's press officers are dynamic, speak several languages and have a thorough knowledge of the European institutions. They have a background in journalism and understand the needs of the broadcast media. They can respond rapidly to requests for information to meet filing deadlines.
