TTIP: MEPs pave way for plenary vote by retabling June amendments

International Trade Committee MEPs on Monday paved the way for a plenary vote on the European Parliament’s draft recommendations for Transatlantic Trade and investment partnership (TTIP) negotiators, by retabling the June plenary amendments which had been referred back for reconsideration. The committee took the decision in two separate votes –one to retable the plenary amendments, and the other to retable requests for split or separate votes. Extraordinary meeting of the Conference of Presidents to discuss the latest developments concerning Greece with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker  

Today the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents (EP President and political group leaders) discussed the latest situation on Greece with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The Conference of Presidents then discussed the situation further and adopted a position on the immediate next step that should be taken. El Primer Ministro chino, Li Keqiang, visitó el Parlamento Europeo este lunes 29 de junio, donde mantuvo una reunión con Martin Schulz, Presidente de la Eurocámara. "Ha sido una reunión muy útil sobre seguridad, clima, comercio, inversión y la zona euro", afirmó Schulz a través de Twitter tras el encuentro. La coyuntura se agrava en Grecia. Luxemburgo toma el relevo de Letonia esta semana al frente de la Presidencia semestral del Consejo, institución que reúne a los Gobiernos de los países de la Unión Europea. Los eurodiputados, por su parte, se disponen a votar como tramitar las enmiendas que provocaron el retraso de la votación en el pleno de las negociaciones de liberalización comercial con Estados Unidos. The European Commission’s weak response to the first EU citizens’ initiative (ECI) petition, on the “Right2Water”, could discredit the ECI system, warn Environment Committee MEPs in a resolution voted on Wednesday. It “lacks any real ambition and failed to meet the demands of the organizers”, they add. ECIs enable citizens to ask the Commission to propose laws in areas within its competence, if they can muster at least one million signatures from at least a quarter of EU member states. Martin Schulz, Presidente del Parlamento Europeo, dijo esperar que se alcance en breve un acuerdo con Grecia que permita que este país permanezca en la zona euro. Schulz lo declaró al inicio de la cumbre que el jueves 25 y viernes 26 de junio celebran en Bruselas los jefes de Estado o de Gobierno de los 28 países de la UE. "Debemos sopesar cuidadosamente los riesgos y elegir la senda que permita reclamar menos responsabilidades a los ciudadanos por una crisis que ellos no causaron", añadió. Negotiations on proposals to revise the Interinstitutional Agreement on Better Regulation kicked off on Thursday with a meeting in the European Parliament between EP President Martin Schulz, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Latvia’s Prime Minister, Laimdota Straujuma, representing the current Council Presidency and Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel for the incoming Council Presidency. MEPs close deal with Council on seal products

Trading in seal products from hunts hitherto conducted to protect fishing stocks will be banned in the EU in future but the exemption for the trade in products derived from seal hunts carried out by the Inuit community will remain, under the preliminary deal struck by internal market MEPs and the Latvian Presidency of the Council on Thursday. Draft plans to encourage food innovation via a new, simplified authorisation procedure for novel foods, already informally agreed with the Council of Ministers, were endorsed by the Environment Committee on Thursday. In talks, MEPs insisted that foods from cloned animals must be clearly included in the scope of the regulation, as must the precautionary principle, measures to keep nanomaterials under scrutiny and animal testing restrictions.
