New powers for national authorities to check whether e-commerce websites geo-block consumers, track down rogue traders or even, subject to safeguards inserted by MEPs, order that websites hosting scams be shut down, were approved by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee on Tuesday. Las armas de fogueo y las desactivadas inadecuadamente, como eran las usadas en los atentados de París, estarán sometidas en la UE a controles más estrictos, en virtud de una nueva directiva aprobada el martes por el Parlamento. La norma también obligará a los países a poner en marcha sistemas de seguimiento de las licencias concedidas y renovadas, así como a intercambiar información. The rules requiring EU member states to inform the EU Commission of their plans to negotiate energy supply deals with third countries before opening negotiations were approved by MEPs on Thursday. UK must obey EU free movement laws until it leaves the EU, say MEPs

Until the UK leaves the EU, it must obey EU laws on free movement, said a majority of MEPs in a plenary debate with the EU Commission on Wednesday. The EU Commission must ensure that the free movement rights of EU citizens living in the UK are respected, they added. Many speakers also underlined that EU citizens should not be used as ”bargaining chips” in the Brexit negotiations. El escándalo Volkswagen sobre la manipulación en las mediciones de las emisiones contaminantes de los vehículos mostró las debilidades del sistema europeo actual. El responsable del Parlamento Europeo en la negociación para mejorar las reglas, el conservador británico Daniel Dalton, admite en una entrevista que es difícil detener a los que quieren saltarse las normas, pero reclama un sistema que al menos sea “lo más robusto posible”. In a drive to prevent a recurrence of the VW emissions scandal, Internal Market Committee MEPs amended EU car “type approval” rules on Thursday, to make environmental and safety testing more independent and strengthen national and EU oversight of cars already on the road.
