Experts and MEPs voiced concerns over the numerous violations of human rights in Eastern Ukraine including Crimea during a special hearing organised on Thursday by the Human Rights Subcommittee in association with the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

Experts from Ukraine and NGOs and representatives of the Crimean Tatar Community spoke about the growing number of human rights violations in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea, focusing on children's rights, access to justice, political and social rights. They said "the civil society is dying in Crimea" and asked for the EU to support them. They also stressed the need to protect ethnic minorities and internally displaced persons.

The majority of MEPs agreed that Crimea should return under Ukraine's jurisdiction stressing the need to protect the country's territorial integrity.
